How Often to Get a Haircut

It is the question we hear most in the chair: how often should I actually be coming in? The honest answer is that it depends on your hair, your cut, and how you like it to look — but here are the guidelines we give our own guests at Bal Harbour Shops.

Short and precise cuts: every 4–6 weeks

A sharp, structured shape — a crisp bob, a pixie, a tailored men’s cut — relies on clean lines. Those lines soften quickly as hair grows, so to keep the cut looking intentional rather than grown-out, plan on every 4 to 6 weeks. This is the group that benefits most from a regular rhythm.

Medium length and layered styles: every 6–8 weeks

Most guests live here. Layers and mid-length shapes hold up longer than a precision bob, but the ends and the internal shape still need attention. Every 6 to 8 weeks keeps everything moving the way it was designed to and stops the style from looking heavy.

Long, lived-in hair: every 10–12 weeks

If you are growing your hair out or you wear it long and soft, you have more room. A dusting of the ends every 10 to 12 weeks protects length from splitting without sacrificing it. You do not need to come in as often — you just need the trims you do get to be conservative and deliberate.
