Hair Salon Near Golden Beach
The nearest color house to Golden Beach — straight down Ocean Boulevard to Bal Harbour Shops, about twenty minutes with no causeway and no toll.
Five and a half miles due south on Ocean Boulevard, which becomes Collins Avenue at the town line. One road the whole way.
Golden Beach is the only stretch of this barrier island with no towers on it. Drive north from us and the wall of Sunny Isles oceanfront buildings simply stops at the town line; you get about a mile of low houses and clipped hedges, four blocks wide, and then Hallandale’s towers start again. The town is four tenths of a square mile, holds fewer than four hundred single-family homes and around nine hundred and sixty residents, and its rules forbid both high-rise construction and commercial development.
That last clause matters more than it sounds. Because commercial use is not permitted inside the town, there is no salon in Golden Beach and there cannot be one. Every resident’s hairdresser is somewhere else by law rather than by preference, and we are the nearest serious color house to the town line — a straight run down one road, no causeway, no toll, no bridge that opens.
It is also a town that has gone to some trouble to be private. In 1981 it closed all but one of its entrances from A1A, so today there is a single controlled way in past a police guardhouse, and the town runs its own force with a marine patrol on the Intracoastal side. Guests who live behind that gate tend to value the same thing in a salon: an appointment that is held, a stylist who already knows the history, and a third-floor room that is not a thoroughfare.
