What makes it a Russian manicure

It is a technique, not a style. A Russian manicure is performed DRY — no soaking bowl — using an electric file with fine bits to lift and clear the cuticle line rather than cutting it away with nippers. Because the nail is never waterlogged, the plate is at its true size while it is being worked, which is why the result does not shift once the nail dries out.

The point of all that precision is the finish. Clearing the cuticle properly means polish can be laid right up to the skin without flooding it, so the nail reads longer, the manicure looks seamless from day one, and there is no gap at the base after a week. Most guests come back every three to four weeks. Because the cuticle work is thorough, the grow-out is far less obvious at week three than with a classic manicure, which is the practical reason people move to it and stay.
